Angra dos Reis Sustainable Tourism Fee: What Visitors Need to Know

As of April 27, 2026, everyone visiting Angra dos Reis, including Ilha Grande and its neighbouring islands, are required to hold an individual Sustainable Tourism Fee voucher. This fee is called Taxa de Turismo Sustentável in Portuguese, or just TTS.

The Sustainable Tourism Fee is a new municipal requirement being implemented by the City Hall of Angra dos Reis. As Ilha Grande is part of the municipality of Angra dos Reis, all visitors to the island are subject to this fee.

The Sustainable Tourism Fee (TTS) is managed directly by the municipality through its digital portal called " Viva Angra " and at self-service stations, located near major boarding areas. Authorized points include Santa Luzia Station and Camorim pier on the mainland, as well as Abraão Station , Japariz pier , and Araçatiba on Ilha Grande.

The voucher is individual and non-transferable. Each visitor must fill in their own information, and the voucher may be sent by SMS, WhatsApp and email.

Please note that this fee is not included in tours, boat trips, transfers, accommodation bookings or any service booked through Ilha Grande Hiking. At this moment, the Sustainable Tourism Fee is collected only through the official municipal channels.

Sometimes, in the middle of everyday rush, there is a simple urge to leave everything behind to slow down, breathe, and reset. Few experiences do that as naturally as a long walk through the Atlantic Forest, ending at a remote beach inside one of Brazil’s most beautiful protected areas.

Parnaioca is often described as a kind of detox not as a trend, but as a real experience shaped by distance, silence, and nature.

The Meaning of Parnaioca

The name Parnaioca comes from Tupi-Guarani and can be translated as “shelter from the sea.” The meaning fits perfectly.

This is an open-ocean beach stretching for nearly one kilometer, surrounded by valleys and mountains, crossed by freshwater streams, and completely disconnected from conventional infrastructure. There is no public electricity grid here. What you hear, day and night, is the sound of the waves.

Reaching Parnaioca: By Sea or on Foot

Parnaioca can be reached either by boat or on foot, and the way you arrive already sets the tone of the experience.

The right side of the beach also offers good conditions for snorkeling on calm days, with clear water near the rocks and plenty of marine life to observe.

Boat arrival times are usually when the beach feels most lively, as different tours tend to arrive around similar hours. Walking a little farther from the main landing area or heading toward the river often reveals quieter corners of the beach.

Because there is no waste collection in Parnaioca, visitors arriving by boat are kindly encouraged to take all their trash back with them. Small gestures like this help keep the beach as preserved as it is today.

Life Before Silence: A Former Village by the Sea

Parnaioca was not always this quiet.

For decades, this valley sheltered one of the largest communities on Ilha Grande. Fishing and small-scale agriculture shaped daily life, and families lived spread along the beach and the lower slopes of the forest.

Most houses were built using pau a pique, a traditional construction technique made of wooden frameworks filled with clay and earth. These materials were locally available and made sense in a place where transporting bricks, cement, or heavier materials was nearly impossible.

Because of this, little remains standing today. Time, rain, and vegetation slowly reclaimed what once was a village. Walking through Parnaioca is also walking through what is no longer visible.

The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Near the beach, one structure still plays an active role in the life of Parnaioca: the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Simple and well cared for, the church is still open and maintained by the local community. Although regular masses are no longer held, it remains a meaningful place for residents and visitors alike.

Right next to the church, a small cemetery reinforces the sense of continuity, reminding visitors that Parnaioca is not just a landscape, but a lived place.

Today, only a few families still call this valley home, maintaining their connection to the land and welcoming visitors mainly through small-scale tourism.

Mirante da Inhana: A Pause Before Arrival

For those approaching Parnaioca on foot, the Mirante da Inhana is one of the most memorable viewpoints along the route.

Located shortly before reaching the beach and visible on the left side of the trail when facing the sea, this viewpoint opens up to the Atlantic coastline and the deep valleys surrounding Parnaioca. The visit is well worth it, but it doesn’t need to happen on the day of arrival. Many visitors choose to return another day, once settled, to enjoy the view at a slower pace.

From the beach, the mirante is about a 30-minute walk, making it an easy and rewarding side trip for those who want to explore a bit more of the surroundings.

Local Tips: How to Experience Parnaioca

On calmer days, the left side of the beach offers excellent conditions for snorkeling. The water tends to be clearer near the rocks, and it’s common to spot colorful fish and, with some luck, sea turtles.

On the right side of the beach, the Parnaioca River flows into the sea. A short walk upstream, a narrow trail follows the river toward small waterfalls and natural pools, perfect for cooling off in fresh water surrounded by forest.

Parnaioca is also a rewarding place for birdwatching and wildlife observation. Because the surrounding forest remains well preserved, several species have been recorded here, including the endangered Chauá Parrot (Amazona rhodocorytha), large forest birds locally known as Pavó (Pyroderus scutatus), and even occasional visits from the King Vulture (Sarcoramphus papa).

Near the river and along parts of the shoreline, attentive visitors may notice subtle marks on rock surfaces, known as lithic workshops, left by ancestral peoples who inhabited the island thousands of years ago.

Praia do Caxadaço is one of those places that most people would never find by chance. Hidden from the open coast and protected by rocky headlands, it feels quiet, sheltered, and discreet even though it lies on the ocean-facing side of Ilha Grande.

The name Caxadaço is often associated with the idea of protection and enclosure, something like a natural “steel box”, a place capable of guarding and hiding what is inside. During Brazil’s Colonial period, this meaning made a lot of sense to sailors and navigators.

Because the beach cannot be seen from those sailing along the coast, Caxadaço was historically used as a natural refuge and a discreet anchorage.

Because of its geography, Praia do Caxadaço also became part of old maritime routes used by pirates and smugglers. Hidden from the open coast and impossible to spot from passing ships, this small beach functioned as a natural hideout a place to wait, resupply, or disappear from sight.

In a time when control of the sea was limited, landscapes like this shaped how people moved, traded, and hid along the Brazilian coast.

At Caxadaço, geography once again explains human presence.After the transatlantic slave trade was officially prohibited in Brazil, this hidden beach became one of the landing points used for the illegal disembarkation of enslaved people. Its isolation and invisibility made it a strategic and tragic part of that history.

Today, Caxadaço is one of the beaches visited during an island circumnavigation by boat , an experience that allows travelers to reach remote areas of Ilha Grande that are otherwise difficult to access.

Although today it feels peaceful, Caxadaço carries layers of memory beneath its calm surface.

If you look closely at the rocks along the shoreline, you may notice subtle marks carved into the stone. Arriving by boat, take a moment to observe the surroundings. On the left side of the beach, a small freshwater stream flows directly from the forest into the sea, especially noticeable after rainy days.

On the right side of the beach, a short trail climbs over the rocks. It takes less than ten minutes, but it is steep and uneven, and the rocks can be slippery. This path is not recommended for guests with reduced mobility.

If you choose to go up carefully, the view from the top is one of the highlights of the area. On clear days, looking to the left, it is possible to see Lopes Mendes , with its long stretch of sand and the open ocean beyond.

A história por trás do primeiro registro oficial do Urubu-rei na Ilha Grande e o que sua presença revela sobre este santuário de biodiversidade.

H oje queremos compartilhar com vocês uma notícia que, para nós, é motivo de muita alegria e orgulho, e também de grande importância para a história natural da Ilha Grande. Conseguimos registrar, pela primeira vez na história, o urubu-rei ( Sarcoramphus papa ) aqui na Ilha Grande — uma ave majestosa, rara e que sempre despertou o interesse da comunidade de observadores de aves locais por já ter sido relatada por diversas pessoas, mas nunca registrada oficialmente.

Com este novo registro, a ilha ultrapassa oficialmente a marca de mais de 300 espécies de aves catalogadas [1], um marco que reforça a relevância de Ilha Grande como um dos principais santuários de biodiversidade do país.

Nesta postagem, vou contar como foi o nosso primeiro encontro com essa espécie, o longo período de espera por um reencontro e todos os bastidores que tornaram esse momento tão especial. Mais do que um simples registro, essa história é sobre conexão com a natureza, paciência e o prazer de observar aves livres em seu habitat natural.

Uma História de Paciência e Descoberta

No ano passado, vivemos um daqueles momentos que ficam guardados para sempre na memória. Estávamos na praia, num dia em que decidimos sair apenas para passarinhar — levamos binóculos e nosso livro de identificação de aves, mas optamos por deixar o celular em casa. Queríamos nos desconectar um pouco da tecnologia e simplesmente observar, sem pressa, sem telas.

Foi ali, sentados na areia, que avistamos pela primeira vez um urubu-rei. Para nós, foi emocionante: a primeira vez que víamos essa espécie na vida, fora de um zoológico. Ele estava um pouco distante, e sabíamos que, mesmo que tivéssemos o celular, a foto não ficaria muito boa. Por isso, decidimos não fotografar, e sim aproveitar o momento — admirando a imponência daquele voo e guardando a cena na memória.

Pouco tempo depois daquele primeiro encontro, participei de uma atividade de observação de aves chamada “Vem Passarinhar”, organizada pelo INEA, na Rebio da Praia do Sul. No caminho, conversando com outros membros do Clube de Observadores de Aves da Ilha Grande (COA), ao qual também fazemos parte, contei sobre o urubu-rei que havíamos visto dias antes.

Foi então que veio a surpresa, um colega me falo que nunca havia sido feito um registro oficial dessa espécie na Ilha Grande. Alguns já tinham relatado avistamentos, mas nenhuma foto ou documento havia sido incluído nas listas oficiais.

Na hora, bateu uma mistura de orgulho e arrependimento — orgulho por termos visto algo tão raro, e arrependimento por não termos voltado para buscar os celulares.

Depois daquela descoberta, passamos a olhar para o céu com ainda mais cuidado. Já tínhamos certeza da existência do urubu-rei na ilha — não era mais um boato, como às vezes acontece quando alguém confunde uma espécie com outra. Para nós, não havia dúvida sobre o que tínhamos avistado, e isso nos motivava a manter a atenção redobrada.

Desde quando fizemos o primeiro avistamento, há mais de um ano, já retornamos em diversas oportunidades a essa mesma praia e a outras praias próximas, sempre observando e buscando por ele. Nesse dia em especial, o clima estava perfeito, e decidimos subir até o mirante próximo ao ponto do primeiro encontro, pensando: “Poxa, que bacana seria se conseguíssemos rever o urubu-rei e fazer uma foto bem bonita dele”. Ficamos por lá, observando aves por um bom tempo, mas nada dele aparecer.

Eu levei o drone e aproveitei para fazer algumas fotos panorâmicas do local. Enquanto isso, a Carla, incansável, continuava vasculhando cada ponto que via voando pelo céu com binóculos, na esperança de identificar algo especial.

Foi então que, de repente, ela anunciou com empolgação que tinha visto algo ao longe. No início, nem mesmo o zoom da câmera alcançava com clareza, chegamos até a pensar que talvez essa poderia acabar se tornando o nosso segundo avistamento, sem conseguir um registro, mas aos poucos a silhueta imponente se aproximou, revelando-se como ele: o urubu-rei.

Foi um momento raro e emocionante. Ele sobrevoou mais baixo do que nós, fazendo voos circulares e se aproximando, como se estivesse nos presenteando com aquela visão. Em um dos voos, passou diante da ponta do morro da Parnaióca, com a Reserva Biológica da Praia do Sul ao fundo — uma cena que parecia pintada.

Pouco depois, ele se afastou, mas retornou, desta vez voando bem acima de nossas cabeças. O reencontro que tanto desejávamos finalmente havia acontecido.

Para nossa surpresa, a cena do primeiro avistamento se repetiu: em um determinado momento, o urubu-rei ( Sarcoramphus papa ) apareceu voando em formação com um urubu-de-cabeça-preta ( Coragyps atratus ) e um urubu-de-cabeça-vermelha ( Cathartes aura ). Foi emocionante ver as três espécies voando juntas e poder estar compartilhando com vocês.

A Força da Ciência Cidadã: Uma Conquista Comunitária

Essa conquista não teria sido possível sem a força da comunidade e da ciência cidadã.

Carla Damasceno teve um papel fundamental em toda essa história. Moradora, observadora de aves, guia de ecoturismo na Ilha Grande, e também cofundadora do Ilha Grande Hiking, ela foi quem avistou o urubu-rei.

Sua dedicação e olhar atento foram decisivos. Além disso, ela foi a responsável por fazer a primeira publicação oficial no WikiAves [2], garantindo que a observação entrasse para a história da Ilha Grande.

Ela mesma conta que, enquanto estava a procura, brincava mentalmente com os outros urubus próximos, dizendo algo como: “Vamos lá chamar o seu rei para voar nesse céu lindo!” — uma fala leve e bem-humorada, sem qualquer relação hierárquica real na natureza, mas que tornou o momento ainda mais especial. E, como que respondendo ao chamado, o urubu-rei surgiu no horizonte, acompanhado, coroando um dia que ficará para sempre em nossas lembranças.

Outro ponto essencial nessa história é o trabalho realizado por Letícia Bortolon, integrante do Clube de Observadores de Aves da Ilha Grande (COA). Até pouco tempo atrás, era difícil saber exatamente quais aves já haviam sido observadas na ilha, pois as informações estavam dispersas em três listas principais: a lista acadêmica, a lista do WikiAves — uma das maiores plataformas de avifauna do Mundo — e a lista do INEA (Instituto Estadual do Ambiente).

Ela assumiu a missão de reunir e consolidar todas essas informações em um único documento , criando uma lista unificada das espécies da Ilha Grande [1]. Esse trabalho de organização e cruzamento de dados, também atualizou as taxonomias das espécies das listas mais antigas e foi fundamental para facilitar a consulta e dar mais clareza à comunidade de observadores, pesquisadores e visitantes.

Foi graças a essa lista que a gente se deu conta de que já tinha fotografado uma espécie inédita para a Ilha Grande: o pernilongo-de-costa-branca (Himantopus melanurus) [3], n ão vou dar spoiler pois esse caso merece um post exclusivo. :-)

Esse esforço não só ajudou a consolidar informações, mas também abriu caminho para que mais registros inéditos possam ser identificados no futuro, fortalecendo o conhecimento e a preservação da biodiversidade local.

O Significado do Urubu-rei para a Ilha Grande

O Urubu-rei é uma ave de grande porte que habita florestas tropicais bem preservadas, necessitando de vastas áreas para encontrar as carcaças de animais de médio a grande porte que compõem sua dieta. Embora globalmente a espécie seja classificada como "Pouco Preocupante" (LC) pela IUCN [5], suas populações estão em declínio, e avistamentos no estado do Rio de Janeiro são considerados raros, ocorrendo geralmente em áreas de mata contínua e com alto grau de conservação [6]. A presença de uma ave de topo de cadeia como esta pode ser considerado um bioindicador de primeira ordem, sinalizando um ecossistema saudável e funcional, capaz de sustentar toda a teia alimentar. Este avistamento, portanto, não é apenas uma sorte, mas a consequência direta da integridade de uma das mais significativas arcas de conservação da Mata Atlântica e acontece dentro de uma unidade de conservação (UC) que é o Parque Estadual da Ilha Grande.

Para colocar a importância da Ilha Grande em perspectiva, realizamos um exercício comparativo. É fundamental deixar claro que esta não é uma métrica científica oficial, mas um exercício que fizemos para ilustrar sua extraordinária biodiversidade. O cálculo é simples: dividimos o número total de espécies de aves pela área total do território (em km²) para encontrar a "densidade de avifauna".

No caso da Ilha Grande, a conta é 301 espécies [1] ÷ 193 km² [7] , o que resulta em uma impressionante concentração de aproximadamente 1,56 espécies por km² . Ao aplicarmos este mesmo exercício a alguns dos países mais celebrados pela observação de aves, os dados são impressionantes. Ruanda, um dos países com maior densidade entre as nações ricas em aves, possui 638 espécies em 26.336 km² [8, 9], resultando em 0,024 espécies/km² — um valor quase 65 vezes menor. A diferença para a Costa Rica, que é referência em diversidade é ainda mais vasta. (844 espécies em 51.100 km², ou 0,017 espécies/km² [8, 10]).

Este exercício demonstra que, se a Ilha Grande fosse um país, ela não apenas lideraria este ranking mundial de densidade, mas o faria com uma margem avassaladora.

Essa biodiversidade espetacular, no entanto, vive sob constante ameaça. A ilha está situada na Baía da Ilha Grande, no município de Angra dos Reis-RJ, uma região em continua expansão populacional, de intensa atividade industrial que abriga um terminal petrolífero, um dos maiores estaleiros do país para navios e plataformas, e está próxima à área de exploração do pré-sal. Adicionalmente, o único complexo nuclear do Brasil se encontra nas proximidades. A pesca industrial e artesanal também exerce grande pressão sobre os ecossistemas, competindo diretamente com as aves marinhas por recursos alimentares.

O turismo, um dos principais motores econômicos de Angra dos Reis e da Ilha Grande, impõe seus próprios desafios: a crescente demanda por infraestrutura leva à supressão de áreas de mata e a exploração desenfreada dos recursos hídricos, com saneamento básico precário resultando na poluição de rios e mar que sustentam a biodiversidade local. Adicionalmente, a atividade gera um volume massivo de resíduos sólidos, poluição sonora (diurna e noturna) e iluminação artificial, que perturbam o ciclo de vida da fauna silvestre e marinha.

O avistamento do urubu-rei é, portanto, um símbolo de resiliência, mas também um alerta urgente sobre a necessidade de proteger este santuário que a cada dia demonstra que cada hectare de sua floresta é um tesouro insubstituível e um dos mais vibrantes epicentros de vida aviária e biodiversidade do planeta.

For those visiting Brazil and Rio de Janeiro, Ilha Grande is an unmissable destination that should not be left out of your itinerary. Ideally, to fully appreciate the wonders of this incredible place, you'd need 3 to 4 days.

However, if you have limited time available, we've listed some tips for you to make the most of a day trip to Ilha Grande from Rio de Janeiro.

The best and the cheapest way to get from Paraty to Ilha Grande

If you planning to visit Paraty and Ilha Grande, you probably wonder what is the best way to get to Ilha Grande from Paraty.

The cost and time of the journey depends on how you doing your travel.

To make your life easier we will split the journey in two parts, the first with the road transportation and the second with the maritime crossing.

Road Trip

The Cheapest Way

To get to Ilha Grande from Paraty on the budget is using the regular bus that leaves from the Paraty bus station towards Angra dos Reis.

You can also hop on the bus along the route, so you don't need to go to Paraty bus station to catch the bus. It is a regular line, so it makes many stops, and the journey takes an average of 2 hours.

It is not the most comfortable, and we only recommend it to those travelling with backpack or little luggage.

The "comfortable way"

The bus coaches of Viação Costa Verde have regular schedules leaving from Paraty towards Angra dos Reis.

It is way more comfortable and has plenty of luggage space for those travelling with suitcases or a bit more luggage.

Unlike the preview option, this service ends at Angra dos Reis bus station, where you can get a Uber, regular taxi or bus to the town centre. You can also walk your way in approximately 25 minutes.

The easiest way

If you are the type of person who likes to travel at ease, the Transfer Service may be the right choice for you.

You just need to book it online, and they will take care of the rest, including the maritime crossing to Ilha Grande.

You can also choose between meeting point or pick up at your address (check the coverage upon booking).

Some of them you can cancel up to 24h before departure. (check before booking)

The official ferry departs from Lapa's pier Mon-Fri at 15:30h and Sat-Sun and bank holidays at 13:30h. (BRL 20,50)

From the Santa Luzia pier, there are Flexboats departures almost every hour from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm - BRL 100 per person.

Nature, history and culture

When we talk about Ilha Grande, its natural beauties, beautiful beaches, waterfalls, and incredible biodiversity immediately come to mind. Still, only some people know that the island has a great historical and cultural legacy.

With the extinction of the high-security prison in 1994, tourism became the primary economic source of local communities, and as a result, we had the arrival of new residents from different parts of the country and the world.

This process of mischaracterization is increasingly accelerated as disorderly and predatory tourism is growing, so many stories, legends and traditions are falling into oblivion and little by little, the island is losing its identity to globalization.

But all is not lost; the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), Inea and community association movements and many others have been fighting to preserve the local culture through studies, driver training and projects that rescue this rich story.

We at Ilha Grande Hiking had the idea of bringing a little of that legacy through our blog, telling a few stories, legends and local curiosities for visitors to our beloved island.

We believe in the motto "know to preserve" and sustainable tourism because this paradise deserves to be preserved.

Did you know…..

On many beaches of Ilha Grande it is possible to see the ancestral marks of communities of fishermen, gatherers and hunters who lived here 3000 years ago; incredible.

Researchers made this discovery from UERJ, called lithic workshops; these traces found in some parts of the island are the marks left by the tools that were sharpened and polished on the rocks.

A cemetery and several shell mounds were also found. Residents of Vila do Aventureiro say that when the researcher responsible for the discovery removed the bones for study, she was haunted by spirits and wandered around the village.

Truth or legend, we don't know for sure, but what counts is having "stories" to tell.

Natureza, história e cultura

Quando falamos em Ilha Grande logo vem em mente as suas belezas naturais, as belas praias, cachoeiras e a grande biodiversidade, mas o que poucas pessoas sabem é que a ilha tem um grande legado histórico cultural.

Com a extinção do presídio de alta segurança em 1994, o turismo passou a ser a principal fonte econômica das comunidades locais, e de consequência tivemos a chegada de novos moradores vindos de diferentes partes do país e do mundo.

Esse processo de descaracterização está cada vez mais acelerado do momento em que o turismo desordenado e predatório vem crescendo, assim muitas histórias, lendas e tradições vão caindo no esquecimento e aos poucos a ilha vai perdendo sua identidade para globalização.

Mas nem tudo está perdido, a Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), o Inea e movimentos de associações das comunidades e muitos outros vêm lutando para preservar a cultura local, através de estudos, capacitação de condutores e projetos que resgatem essa rica história.

Nós da Ilha Grande Hiking tivemos a ideia de trazer um pouco desse legado através do nosso blog, contando um pouco de histórias, lendas e curiosidades locais para os visitantes da nossa querida ilha.

Acreditamos no lema “conhecer para preservar” e no turismo sustentável porque esse paraíso merece ser preservado.

Em muitas praias da Ilha Grande é possível ver as marcas ancestrais de comunidades de pescadores, coletores e caçadores que viviam aqui 3000 anos atrás, incrível, não?

Mesmo sendo do conhecimento de moradores antigos esse fato foi estudado e divulgado por pesquisadores da UERJ, chamadas de oficinas líticas, esses vestígios encontrados em algumas partes da ilha são as marcas deixadas pelas ferramentas que eram amoladas e polidas nas rochas.

Foram também encontrados um cemitério e vários sambaquis. Alguns moradores da Vila do Aventureiro contam que quando a pesquisadora responsável pela descoberta, retirou os ossos para que fossem estudados, foi assombrada pelos espíritos e ficou vagando pela vila.

Verdade ou lenda, a gente não sabe ao certo mas o que vale é ter “causos” para contar.

Estamos muitos felizes em apresentar o novo membro do time Ilha Grande Hiking.

Uma das paixões que temos é registrar as belezas naturais da Ilha Grande.

Quem já fez alguma caminhada comigo já pode ter sido vitima dessa paixão... as vezes estamos em um ritmo bacana na trilha, quando algo me chama a atenção e antes mesmo que eu possa controlar, já parei para fotografar.

A verdade é que quase não divulgo tanto, mas o registro não me escapa :-P

Outra coisa que amamos dentro da observação da natureza é justamente a observação de aves e quase sempre me pego tentando "enxergar através dos olhos das aves".

E por último, como toda criança grande que adora brinquedos de controle remoto, a vontade de ter um drone era enorme.

Tão grande que cá esta ele... mesmo ponderando muito sobre esse tipo de "investimento" que pode ir embora em uma falha boba, tanto humana quando mecânica, resolvemos arriscar.

A escolha foi difícil, mas algumas coisas que pesaram a favor foram tamanho e peso reduzido, longa distancia de transmissão, duração de voo, modos de captura inteligente e sensores de obstaculos.

Depois que tiver mais contato com o aparelho, irei escrever um review sobre ele.

A principio já fiz um vídeo do Unboxing (também já tomei o primeiro susto com o drone) e de alguns voos aqui pela enseada do Abraão, o dia estava lindo e os primeiros registros são promissores :-)

Como falar de drone e divulgar imagens aéreas aqui da Ilha Grande é algo que provavelmente farei muito nos próximos meses :-) criei um canal o meu Canal no Youtube e gostaria de convidar todos vocês a serem os primeiros a se inscreverem.

Lembra também de ativar o sininho assim vocês não perdem nenhum voo.

Nada é muito profissional a principio, mas espero cada vez mais ir melhorando a qualidade das imagens e edições do canal.

Por aqui também estaremos trazendo as melhores imagens coletas para compartilhar com vocês.

Hoje dia 5 de outubro é dia de celebrar a natureza com o Dia Nacional da Ave.

O decreto foi instituído no dia 12 de setembro de 1968 pelo presidente Arthur da Costa e Silva, em 2002 foi revogado por um outro decreto que manteve a data de 5 de outubro e também foi definida a ave representante nacional.

E você sabe qual é ave simbolo do Brasil?

A escolhida para ser a representante nacional foi o nosso querido sabiá laranjeira (Turdus rufiventris) por estar presente em quase todo territorio nacional e também por estar presente em muitas lendas, canções e historias em todas as regiões do país.

Eternizado nos versos da “Canção do Exilio” de Gonçalves Dias, essa avezinha tem um canto que alegra o dia de qualquer um que tenha a sorte de estar por perto,

“Minha terra tem palmeiras

Onde canta o Sabiá,

As aves, que aqui gorjeiam,

Não gorjeiam como lá.”

Datas como essa são muito importantes para reforçar a importância da preservação das espécies . Nosso país é rico em biodiversidade, a Mata Atlântica é o lar de muitas espécies endêmicas ou seja que só ocorrem nesse bioma.

O comercio ilegal de animais silvestre, principalmente de aves é uma triste realidade brasileira que deve ser combatida,

A cultura do passarinho em gaiola é outra coisa que particularmente me toca bastante e me deixa bem revoltada.

Sempre tive o sonho de voar, em algum momento fui paraquedista e a queda livre foi o que consegui chegar mais perto da sensaçaõ de estar voando, fico pensando nessas criaturas aladas feitas para voar presas em cativeiro para alegria de um ser humano, triste.

Nas nossas caminhadas aqui pelas trilhas da Ilha Grande, tivemos diversos encontros emocionantes com aves consideradas em estado de consevação vulnerável ou em via de extinção, mostrando da importância da preservação da Ilha Grande, e que deve permanecer intocada independente de toda pressao imobiliária.

Observação de aves na Ilha Grande

A observação de aves é uma atividade que tem muitos adeptos em volta do mundo, no Brasil temos cada vez mais pessoas se interessando pelo birdwatch, termo usado para os observadores de aves.

E a Ilha Grande mais uma vez se apresenta como o lugar perfeito para aqueles que amam a natureza e querem mais além do destino turistico de praia, sol e mar.

Mesmo ainda não sendo uma atividade muito popular por aqui, o pessoal do PEIG (Parque Estadual da Ilha Grande) vem organizando de tempos em tempos o passarinhar, essa atividade convida os amantes da natureza a percorrer trilhas do parque junto com um especialista para observar as aves aqui da ilha.

Mesmo para os mais leigos a grande biodiversidade local possibilita conhecer várias espécies de aves, muitas endêmicas da Mata Atlântica, ou seja que só podem ser vistas nesse bioma.

Até os observadores mais expertos ficam deslumbrados diante tanta variedade e a possibilidade de ter encontros com espécimes já ameaçadas ou em perigo de extinção.

Na Ilha Grande temos diversas trilhas onde podemos ter encontros com ties sangues, saíras, papagaios e até admirar a famosa dança dos tangarás.

E não se preocupe não é necessário nenhum super equipamento, ter um binóculos ou uma camera fotografica pode te ajudar bastante na hora de observar uma ave mas mesmo com o celular é possível fazer fotos e registrar seus encontros.

No sábado dia 6/08 nós da Ilha Grande Hiking participamos de mais um passarinhar, nossa caminhada de observação nos fez percorrer parte da estrada que leva a Vila de Dois Rios, uma das nossas caminhadas preferidas .

Foi fantástico, em 5h de observação conseguimos identificar mais de 65 espécies diferentes de aves, o que mostra que nossa ilha tem o potencial de ser uma referência de ecoturismo para a observação de aves no Brasil.

Não vemos a hora para o próximo evento e Bora Passarinhar!!

Dicas

Para observar aves é preciso caminhar devagar e fazer o menos ruído possível, usar roupa confortável com cores sóbrias que fiquem bem camufladas com o entorno, evitar fazer movimentos bruscos, manter uma distância mínima do animal para que o mesmo não se sinta ameaçado, é recomendado o uso de um binóculos, e estar sempre que possível estar acompanhado por um guia que esteja familiarizado com as aves locais.

Para quem sentir interesse de se aproximar dessa atividade do birdwatch pode ser bem bacana associar-se a clubes de observadores de aves e o Wiki Aves também é uma grande fonte de informações.

Como ir de Paraty para Ilha Grande?

Se você planeja visitar Paraty e Ilha Grande, provavelmente se pergunta qual é a melhor maneira de chegar na Ilha Grande vindo de Paraty.

O custo e o tempo da jornada dependem de como você escolhe fazer sua viagem.

O "jeito mais econômico"

Chegar a Ilha Grande vindo de Paraty do jeito mais econômico é pegando o ônibus regular que sai da estação rodoviária de Paraty para a Angra Dos Reis.

Dependendo de onde esta hospedado, é possível pegar o ônibus ao longo da estrada, para não precisar ir até a estação de ônibus. É uma linha regular, por isso faz muitas paradas e a viagem leva em média 2 horas.

Não é o jeito mais confortável, sendo mais recomendado para quem viaja com mochila ou pouca bagagem.

Os ônibus da Viação Costa Verde têm horários regulares saindo de Paraty em direção a Angra Dos Reis.

É muito mais confortável e tem muito espaço para bagagem para quem viaja com malas ou um pouco mais de bagagem.

Ao contrário da opção anterior, este serviço termina na Estação Rodoviária de Angra Dos Reis, onde você pode pegar um Uber, táxi regular ou ônibus para o centro da cidade. Você também pode caminhar em aproximadamente 25 minutos.

O "jeito mais fácil"

Se você é o tipo de pessoa que gosta de viajar à vontade, o serviço de transfer pode ser a escolha certa para você.

A reserva pode ser feita on -line e eles cuidarão de todo o resto, incluindo a travessia marítima para Ilha Grande.

Você também pode escolher entre o ponto de encontro ou ser pego no seu endereço (verifique na reserva a área de cobertura).

To help you, we have prepared everything you need to know to get to Vila do Abraão , and at the end of the post, there is a tip for anyone coming from

Rio de Janeiro.

It is essential to remember that there are several villages in Ilha Grande, and there is no regular transport between them. Also, private cars are not allowed in Ilha Grande, so before you board the first boat to Ilha Grande, make sure it is going to the proper village or beach you want.

There are three main crossing points:

- Mangaratiba

This is the closest departure point to Rio de Janeiro. The ferry leaves daily at 8:00 am towards Ilha Grande and returns to the same port leaving Vila do Abraão at 17:30h every day; the crossing time is approximately 1h40m, and the price per person is about BRL 20.50 (one way)

Tip: If you plan to take the ferry from Mangaratiba, pay attention to the bus schedule it has to be the one leaving at 5 am, don't miss it!!

- Conceição de Jacareí

It's just a few minutes away from Mangaratiba and offers a great option for those who need flexible schedules. With departures almost every hour from 8 am to 5 pm in both directions, this 20-minute crossing is priced at around BRL 100/150 per person (one way).

With an interstate bus station and direct buses to/from Paraty and many cities from the States of São Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Rio de Janeiro, this is also the main crossing point for travellers from the south of the country.

É MUITO importante lembrar que na Ilha Grande existem várias vilas e não existe transporte regular entre as vilas, além de que não é permitida a entrada de veículos particulares, então antes de você subir no primeiro barco para a Ilha Grande, tenha certeza que o mesmo está indo para a vila ou praia que você deseja ir.

Existem 3 pontos principais de travessia:

�� Mangaratiba - Esse é o ponto de embarque mais próximo do Rio de Janeiro. A Barca sai diariamente de Mangaratiba às 8:00h sentido Ilha Grande e retorna para o mesmo porto saindo da Vila do Abraão às 17:30h todos os dias, o tempo de travessia é de aproximadamente 1:40h e o valor por pessoa é de aproximadamente R$ 20,50 (ida ou volta)

�� Conceição de Jacareí - fica a poucos minutos de Mangaratiba e é uma boa opção para quem precisa de horários alternativos, com saídas praticamente de hora em hora das 8h às 17h em ambos os sentidos, a travessia que leva em torno de 20 minutos custa cerca de R$ 100 por pessoa (ida ou volta)

Travel light but have all you need, this is what we all want, so to make your life easier we made a list of items we suggest you take with you when hiking to Pico do Papagaio in Ilha Grande.

* ID or Passport

* Attack backpack

* sunscreen

* sunglasses

* insect repellent

* snake Guards Leggings for Snake Bite Protection (Gaiters), (if you are hiking with us, we provide the equipment)

* wear appropriate clothing

* closed toe shoes, preferable hiking boot/shoes

* water 1.5 lt (minimum)

* Isotonic (eg: Gatorade)

* raincoat (depending on the weather)

* windbreaker or Anorak for the summit (can be quite cold up there)

* walking stick (1 or 2)

* snacks for the trekking - there are no commercial establishments on the way

* if you use any medication, make sure you bring it

* do not use sweet perfume to avoid attracting bees, wasps and other insects.

* Mobile and Wi-Fi signals are precarious in some parts of the island, there are no banks or ATMs, we recommended you take some cash for food, drinks, souvenirs, and others.

Essa sem duvida é uma pergunta que todos que querem fazer a Volta na Ilha Grande se perguntam em algum momento de seu planejamento.

Durante nossas expedições utilizamos os serviços de hospedagem e alimentação local, assim podemos prestigiar a culinária caiçara e tirar o peso da mochila, já que não precisamos carregar itens como barraca, saco de dormir, toalha, isolante, equipamentos para cozinhar, alimentos (exceto por um pequeno lanche de trilha), etc...

Sempre que falamos de Volta na Ilha Grande é importante informar que a travessia Parnaioca-Aventureiro e vice-versa é proibida e devem ser feita via barco, salvo se você tiver sido expressamente autorizado pelo INEA

Também é muito importante observar as Regras do Parque Estadual da Ilha Grande ao planejar sua visita.

Of course the things were very different back then, Ilha Grande was mostly known for being a former host of a High Security Federal Prison, tourism was far from reality but slowly the beauty of its nature, crystal clear waters, peaceful beaches, breathtaking waterfalls and an unique biodiversity started to change Ilha Grande's fame, in 1994 I was a child that moved from São Paulo and instantaneously feel in love with everything in this amazing Island.

I wanted to explore and enjoy the place but I was a too afraid of hike alone, partially because of the wild animals but mostly because of stories and myths people used to tell that time :-) so on my days off school I would approach tourists and invite them for a hike, it was a win win situation, I could tell them everything I've learned about the Island and also have some companion for my hikes.

Between showing places and also discovering new ones I have virtually explored most of the places worth to know in the Island.

Now I have transformed my old hobby and vocation into a profession and became a licensed ecotourist guide.

Praia da Parnaioca, Ilha Grande: A Place to Slow Down

A remote beach shaped by forest trails, freshwater streams, local history, and one of the most preserved landscapes on Ilha Grande.

Sometimes, in the middle of everyday rush, there is a simple urge to leave everything behind to slow down, breathe, and reset. Few experiences do that as naturally as a long walk through the Atlantic Forest, ending at a remote beach inside one of Brazil’s most beautiful protected areas.

Parnaioca is often described as a kind of detox not as a trend, but as a real experience shaped by distance, silence, and nature.

The Meaning of Parnaioca

The name Parnaioca comes from Tupi-Guarani and can be translated as “shelter from the sea.” The meaning fits perfectly.

This is an open-ocean beach stretching for nearly one kilometer, surrounded by valleys and mountains, crossed by freshwater streams, and completely disconnected from conventional infrastructure. There is no public electricity grid here. What you hear, day and night, is the sound of the waves.

Reaching Parnaioca: By Sea or on Foot

Parnaioca can be reached either by boat or on foot, and the way you arrive already sets the tone of the experience.

Those arriving by sea experience Ilha Grande from a different perspective, navigating along the Atlantic coast on routes that naturally connect some of the island’s most beautiful and remote beaches turning the journey itself into part of the experience.

The right side of the beach also offers good conditions for snorkeling on calm days, with clear water near the rocks and plenty of marine life to observe.

Boat arrival times are usually when the beach feels most lively, as different tours tend to arrive around similar hours. Walking a little farther from the main landing area or heading toward the river often reveals quieter corners of the beach.

Because there is no waste collection in Parnaioca, visitors arriving by boat are kindly encouraged to take all their trash back with them. Small gestures like this help keep the beach as preserved as it is today.

For hikers, the approach is slower and deeply immersive.

Hiking from Vila do Abraão and Passing Through Dois Rios

Starting from Vila do Abraão, the trail heads toward the wilder side of Ilha Grande. Part of this route passes through Dois Rios, naturally connecting different landscapes and ecosystems before reaching the open Atlantic coast.

Beyond Dois Rios, the trail becomes narrower and more enclosed. The forest closes in, and the walk turns into a true immersion in the Atlantic Forest, one of the richest and most biodiverse ecosystems in Brazil.

The Longest Forest Crossing on the Volta à Ilha

This section of the trail is known as the longest continuous stretch fully inside the Atlantic Forest along the Volta à Ilha route.

For hours, hikers walk beneath dense canopy, crossing streams and valleys, surrounded by the constant sounds of water and forest life.

Multi-day trekking routes that cross this region:

Parnaioca was not always this quiet.

For decades, this valley sheltered one of the largest communities on Ilha Grande. Fishing and small-scale agriculture shaped daily life, and families lived spread along the beach and the lower slopes of the forest.

Most houses were built using pau a pique, a traditional construction technique made of wooden frameworks filled with clay and earth. These materials were locally available and made sense in a place where transporting bricks, cement, or heavier materials was nearly impossible.

Because of this, little remains standing today. Time, rain, and vegetation slowly reclaimed what once was a village. Walking through Parnaioca is also walking through what is no longer visible.

The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Near the beach, one structure still plays an active role in the life of Parnaioca: the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Simple and well cared for, the church is still open and maintained by the local community. Although regular masses are no longer held, it remains a meaningful place for residents and visitors alike.

Right next to the church, a small cemetery reinforces the sense of continuity, reminding visitors that Parnaioca is not just a landscape, but a lived place.

Today, only a few families still call this valley home, maintaining their connection to the land and welcoming visitors mainly through small-scale tourism.

Mirante da Inhana: A Pause Before Arrival

For those approaching Parnaioca on foot, the Mirante da Inhana is one of the most memorable viewpoints along the route.

From the beach, the mirante is about a 30-minute walk, making it an easy and rewarding side trip for those who want to explore a bit more of the surroundings.

After hours walking through forest and valleys, the beach opens suddenly.

Parnaioca reveals itself wide, raw, and exposed to the Atlantic. Stronger waves, deep waters, and limited shade naturally slow visitors down. Freshwater streams flowing into the sea offer moments of calm, while the open horizon reinforces the feeling of distance from everyday life.

Local Tips: How to Experience Parnaioca

On calmer days, the left side of the beach offers excellent conditions for snorkeling. The water tends to be clearer near the rocks, and it’s common to spot colorful fish and, with some luck, sea turtles.

On the right side of the beach, the Parnaioca River flows into the sea. A short walk upstream, a narrow trail follows the river toward small waterfalls and natural pools, perfect for cooling off in fresh water surrounded by forest.

Near the river and along parts of the shoreline, attentive visitors may notice subtle marks on rock surfaces, known as lithic workshops, left by ancestral peoples who inhabited the island thousands of years ago.

As the day slows down, Parnaioca offers one last gift.

Sunsets here are among the most beautiful on Ilha Grande.

Visiting with care makes all the difference

Parnaioca is part of a protected area, and it stays special because people help preserve it.

Take nothing from nature, leave nothing behind. Take all your trash back with you, and if you find some litter along the way, helping remove it is a simple way to care for this place.

Camping and fires are not allowed at Parnaioca. Domestic animals are not permitted.

Be careful on the rocks they are impressive but can be slippery and dangerous.
